While the Heisman Trust is most renownded for handing out a prestigious college football award every year, it also loves to provide support to competitors from all corners of the sports world.
One such example is its role as a benefactor to Community Rowing Inc. CRI is an organization founded in 1985 that is dedicated to using the sport of rowing to promote personal and community growth through teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness. Since its inception, CRI has become one of the largest rowing programs in the United States, with more than 5,000 people rowing with it annually.
CRI helps:
- Youth (boys and girls) from local high schools
- Individuals with special needs such as sensory and mobility disabilities from Perkins School for the Blind and other institutions
- Adults of all levels of ability through recreational and competitive programs
- Olympians and National Team Rowers
- National Champions in Women’s, Men’s, and Girls’ Competitive teams
In addition, CRI offers free programs for veterans and active duty military personnel. It also has a special coaching staff dedicated to athletes with physical and cognitive challenges.
