Jim Plunkett threw for 265 yards and one touchdown to lead upstart No. 12 Stanford to a 27-17 victory over undefeated No. 2 Ohio State in the 1971 Rose Bowl game.
Plunkett, who won Stanford’s first Heisman just five weeks prior, was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.
