The first weekend of the 2016 Heisman race is in the books and it was one for the ages. Here’s how the pundits saw it shaking out:
— Stewart Mandel of Fox Sports has Georgia’s Nick Chubb leading his top five. Chubb rushed for 222 yards on 32 carries against North Carolina.
— NCAA.com said Louisville’s Lamar Jackson had the top performance. The Cardinals QB accumulated eight touchdowns running and passing against Charlotte in just one half of play.
— Richard Cirminiello of Campus Insiders has Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey as his leader. The Cardinal running back had 210 all-purpose yards against Kansas State.
— Adam Rittenberg of ESPN says that the freshman class took over week one.
— Chip Patterson of CBSSports.com reminds us that Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett is a legitimate dark horse candidate after his record-setting day against Bowling Green.
— He wasn’t ‘Famous Jameis’, but Deandre Francois was close, writes Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel.
The Heisman campaign for Western Michigan wide receiver Corey Davis is underway.
Billboards popped up in four different locations across Kalamazoo on Monday, as the school’s campaign for Corey Davis to win the Heisman Trophy is officially underway.
The billboards read Corey Davis 84 Heisman(dot)com, and if you go to the site, it’s all Corey all the time. Videos, quotes from scouts, pictures, and more.
Davis had 7 catches for 70 yards against Northwestern in Saturday’s season opening win in Evanston.

With Charles Woodson‘s retirement and Manziel’s suspension, there will be eight Heisman winners on rosters in the NFL this season. Carson Palmer is now the dean of Heisman winners in the league.
