While our national elections tend to orient our viewpoints toward seeking political solutions to the problems that ail society, so much of the effort to help the less fortunate in our country is done under the radar, through the hard work and tenacious efforts of thousands of charitable foundations and private citizens.
One such organization supported by the Heisman Trophy Trust is the Jubilee Park and Community Center located in Dallas, Texas.
The mission of Jubilee Park and Community Center is to be a catalyst for community renewal and enrichment to the Jubilee Park Neighborhood, a 62-block area in southeast Dallas. The majority of families living in that area are working poor who lack access to quality education and healthcare.
Jubilee Park believes there are five pillars that are essential to community renewal: Education, Affordable Housing, Public Health, Public Safety and Economic Development. Accordingly, Jubilee offers holistic education programs for children and adults, plans for building up and improving upon the local housing stock, help to increase nutritional awareness through healthy meals and education, safe places for community children and their families and engagement with businesses and civic leaders to promote real economic growth.
A modest effort that began in 1997 has blossomed into a program that has touched the entire community of Southeast Dallas. And it gets results.
