Wendy’s High School Heisman
Honoring the top high school scholars, athletes, and citizens in the country.
Since 1994, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program has honored more than 250,000 of the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors in partnership with the Heisman Memorial Trophy Trust. The leadership award-honorees are well-rounded young men and woman who excel in learning, performing, and leading in the class room, on the field and in the community. We congratulate this year’s winners.
Andrew Miner from East Greenwich High School in East Greenwich, Rhode Island is an all-star in both his academics and athletics. In addition to Andrew being a part of National Honors Society, Andrew was awarded several academic honors, including the 2013 Harvard Book Award and the 2013 Excellence in English Award. Andrew is also deeply involved in music, being part of the Rhode Island All-State Band, and Junior All-State Jazz and Concert Band. He was the winner of the Berklee Jazz Festival Outstanding Musician and Judge’s Choice Award. Andrew has also been Class President since his sophomore year and has organized food drives, a coat drive and a school supplies drive for Hurricane Sandy victims. On top of his academic achievements and service, Andrew excels in sports. He was honored at a New England Patriots game as a three-time Pop Warner 1st Team All-American and Top Student Athlete in the U.S. He is a captain for his school’s football and baseball teams. He is the quarterback for his school’s football team, earning his varsity letter for four years, winning MVP as a junior and was All-Conference and All-District as a Junior. He also holds his school’s record for total passing yards, completions and touchdown passes. Through all of his achievements, Andrew has lived out his philosophy that “the road to excellence is one I walk best when I walk with my teammates.”
Emily Granger from Saints Peter & Paul High School in Easton, Maryland gives her all no matter what she’s involved in, whether it’s in academics, leading her teams, or helping her community. Emily excels in the classroom, earning her school’s departmental award in Spanish, geometry and biology. She is an AP scholar with distinction and ranks 2nd out of her schools 52 students. She is also the winner of the Robert W. Orme Jr. Award for exemplary scholastic achievement, team spirit and outstanding sportsmanship. Emily is also a leader and role model for her peers, being involved in community service projects for Gilbert Byron House, Saint Christopher’s Church, Kent Island Homeless Shelter and several others. On top of all this, Emily is a three-sport athlete. She has been the captain of her school’s basketball, soccer and lacrosse teams. In basketball, Emily has been a three-year varsity letter winner and earned All-Conference for three years. In soccer, she has earned three years All-Conference and has also set her school’s records for all-time lead in goals (87), all-time lead in assists (38) and all-time overall career points (212). For her lacrosse team, Emily has been a varsity letter winner for three years, also earning All-Conference three years, All-District two years and All-State as a junior. Through all of this, Emily stands by philosophy that “success is the refusal of failure.”
