Video: Steve Owens carries 55 times in Bedlam classic
It’s the 50th anniversary of the Heisman-winning season of Oklahoma running back Steve Owens.
Owens left Oklahoma as the NCAA’s all-time leading rusher with 3,867 career yards (broken two years later by Ed Marinaro). He still holds a rather interesting record — he is the only player whose first three career passes went for touchdowns.
He was later a first-round pick of the Detroit Lions and was a pro bowl honoree before retiring due to injuries in 1975.
Check out this video on one of Owens’ finest games — a 55-carry, 261-yard deluge against Oklahoma State — that helped the Sooner back clinch the Heisman.
