Time for our weekly feature that rounds up the latest Heisman news and updates from around the media world.
The Buzz
Hold on to your hats, Heisman fans. Just one more week to go before Heisman finalists are announced.
— Is USC cornerback Adoree’ Jackson a Heisman candidate after his big game against Notre Dame? Heisman runner up Anthony Davis thinks so:
“I haven’t seen anybody do what he did this year, in terms of all the things he did — punt return, defensive back, kick returner, wide receiver, runner — he does it all,” Davis said. “Yeah, he’s in the running. Is he going to win it? I don’t know. Does he have a shot at it? Yes, he does.”
— Another Jackson, Lamar of Louisville, has a more tenuous grip on the Heisman than in previous weeks, according to the Louisville Courier.
— Did Jackson’s struggle against Kentucky open up the Heisman race? asks CBSSports.com.
Jackson has been outstanding this year. If he won the Heisman, no one would be shocked, but a late-season slide has made things more interesting than they otherwise would have been.
— DeShaun Watson has a chance to make a final Heisman statement in the ACC title game.
— Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield and Dede Westbrook have an opening, too, with this weekend’s game against Oklahoma State.
— Jake Browning revived his candidacy with a strong showing in the Apple Cup.
— Can Christian McCaffrey make it back to New York for the Heisman ceremony?
— Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck made the case for his quarterback, Zach Terrell.
“Our quarterback, in my opinion, is the most valuable player to his football team in the country,” said Fleck, a former receiver at Northern Illinois. “Ninety-nine percent of the country would love to have Zach Terrell on their football team. I promise you that.”
— Stew Mandel of FoxSports.com with his top 5 candidates.

Odds and Ends
— New Texas coach Tom Herman once had a brush with the Heisman as a young assistant.
In the parade for 1998 Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams, Tom Herman was put next to the star running back and given one job: make sure no one touched him. He did his job OK – video footage shows him denying an autograph seeker – and got an unusual side benefit.
“I actually credit Ricky for teaching me the Hook ’em Horns sign,” Herman said.
— Despite Auburn’s loss to Alabama, Cam Newton is still proud to wear his school colors.
— Alabama will erect statues for Mark Ingran and Derrick Henry.
