The Buzz

— More Heisman watches from SaturdayBlitz,
— Bryce Love of Stanford leads the Heisman race according to FanRagSports.com and The All-American.
— Can Love break Barry Sanders’ NCAA single-season rushing record of 2,628 yards?
The only caveat is that Love will have played more games than Sanders, but we’re talking about a record that’s stood since 1988. Semantics aside, it would be a remarkable feat.
— How on earth can OU quarterback Baker Mayfield not win the Heisman? wonders Clay Horning of The Norman Transcript.
— As Oklahoma prepares to face Texas, Mayfield recovers from a tough loss.
“We’re much better than we showed today,” Mayfield said after Saturday’s loss. “That’s why watching this film is going to be hard. It’s going to be good for us in the long run, but you don’t get these chances back. It will settle in for this team and you’ll realize that you don’t get any moment back.”
— NCAA.com compares 2017 Lamar Jackson with 2016 Lamar Jackson.
— From the Dayton News: Jackson need to rally if he’s going to win that second Heisman.
— These Heisman candidates aren’t getting enough love, writes CBSSports.com’s Tom Fornelli. On Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant:
Unless you’re a Clemson fan talking to other Clemson fans, how many times have you heard Kelly Bryant’s name mentioned in the same sentence as Heisman Trophy? I haven’t heard it once, and it boggles my mind how the quarterback on the reigning national champion isn’t getting more attention.
— Don’t forget Alabama defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick.
— Iowa State linebacker Joel Lanning is worthy of Heisman consideration, too, says the Des Moines Register.
— UCLA will honor Gary Beban on the 50th anniversary of his Heisman-winning season at its homecoming game against Arizona this coming Saturday. The Heisman Trust will be doing the same when Heisman weekend rolls around in early December.
