NFL Heisman Update
It looks like two Heisman winners are on a collision course in the NFC.
Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers won’t finish with a perfect record, but a 14-1 record to date is nothing to scoff at. Newton threw for 142 yards and rushed for 46 yards and a touchdowns as Carolina fell to the Falcons, 20-13. If the Panthers aren’t the hottest team in the league, then the Arizona Cardinals deserve that label. Carson Palmer threw for 265 yards and two touchdowns as the Cardinals crushed the Packers to move to 13-2 on the year.
Other Heisman updates:
- Charles Woodson had two tackles as the Raiders beat the Chargers, 23-20.
- Johnny Manziel looked like his college self as Cleveland lost the Chiefs, 17-13. Manziel threw for 136 yards and rushed for 108.
- Sam Bradford threw for 380 yards on 37 of 56 passing but the Eagles lost to the Redskins, 38-24.
- Jameis Winston threw for 295 yards on 15 of 29 passing as the Bucaneers fell to the Bears, 26-21.
- Marcus Mariota missed Tennessee’s latest game with a right knee injury.
- Mark Ingram is out for the year for the Saints after suffering a shoulder injury earlier this month.
Looking ahead to next year…
The 2016 Heisman race promises to be robust. While it’s unknown at this point whether Henry will by pass his senior season for the NFL, we are likely to have several other key members of the final Heisman top 10 returning. This includes the two other Heisman finalists, Christian McCaffrey and Deshaun Watson, plus Baker Mayfield (4th), Leonard Fournette (6th) and Dalvin Cook (7th). The last time the numbers 2, 3 and 4 finishers all returned was in 2010. Also, keep in mind that several up-and-coming youngsters return, plus some premier players who were injured last year.
Only eight months to go before we start the process all over again.
