Travis Hunter Named Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year
Travis Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, earned another impressive national honor last week when he was selected as the Division I Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year by College Sports Communicators.
Hunter joined quarterback Brayden Long from Slippery Rock University, quarterback Aaron Syverson from Saint John’s (Minn.) University and running back Jameson Chesser from Taylor University, who were named as the Academic All-America® Team Members of the Year for NCAA Divisions II and III, and NAIA, respectively.
Hunter earned Academic All-America first team honors for the second year in a row with a 3.79 GPA while majoring in anthropology.
He is the first player in Colorado history to be named a unanimous first-team All-American and first-team Academic All-American.
Hunter is just the third Heisman winner to earn Academic All-American first-team status, joining Florida Heisman winners Danny Wuerffel (1996) and Tim Tebow (2007).
He also joins Wuerffel as the second Heisman Trophy winner who was named the Academic All-American of the Year in the season of their Heisman.
Wuerffel and Tebow were both also two-time first-team picks. Tebow was also the Academic All-American of the Year in 2008 while Wuerffel also earned the distinction in 1995.
Two other Heisman winners earned Academic All-American second-team status in their Heisman seasons — Auburn’s Pat Sullivan (1971) and Baylor’s Robert Griffin III (2011).
