Viva Kreis, Cameron Srivastava Named National Winners Of Heisman High School Scholarship
From an applicant pool of thousands of high school scholar-athletes graduating with the class of 2023, Viva Kreis from Belle Vernon Area High School in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, and Cameron Srivastava from Spartanburg Day School in Spartanburg, South Carolina, have been named the National Winners for the Heisman High School Scholarship competition awarded by The Heisman Trophy Trust.
From its inception in 1994, the program has leveraged the reputation of the Heisman Memorial Trophy as a symbol of great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work.
The Heisman High School Scholarship extends the Heisman prestige to the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors by celebrating and rewarding outstanding male and female scholar-athletes who understand that the most important victories happen not only on the field, but also in their schools and communities.
The program honors the nation’s most accomplished, community-minded high school senior athletes. By inviting male and female students from schools across the country to share their stories of leadership and impact, the program aims to inspire all students to harness their potential, push their limits, and use their talents not only to advance their own futures, but to improve the communities and world around them.
Viva is a member of the US Women’s National Team Handball Team and competes in the sport across the globe while also excelling in three additional varsity sports. She is valedictorian, class president, and the founder of multiple community-wide initiatives and fundraisers designed to address critical needs in her community. Viva will attend the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University where she plans to pursue her career goal of becoming a broadcaster for women’s sports.
Cameron is valedictorian, student body president, and captain of his track and field and cross country teams, Cameron has perfected a leadership style founded in creating positive culture where all can thrive. His commitment to community extends well beyond the walls of his school and is exemplified in the mission of the organization he created, “Equity Starts from the Heart,” which brings citizens and professionals together to raise awareness of disparities in healthcare and broaden access to innovative treatments. Cameron plans to pursue a career in medical research and advancement.
Viva and Cameron will each receive a $10,000 college scholarship and be invited guests to the 2022 Heisman Trophy ceremony.
