Heisman Winner
Joe Burrow
QB | RS Senior | Louisiana State
Joe Burrow turned in one of the most prolific seasons in college football history as a 2019 senior en route to a historic Heisman Trophy win, becoming the second LSU player to win the award and the first since the late Billy Cannon in 1959.
Burrow led the Tigers to a 13-0 regular season en route to a 15-0 national championship triumph. His standout year was good enough to shatter Heisman voting records, notching the highest percentage of first-place vote, the highest percentage of possible points and appearing on the most ballots. His margin of victory (1,846 points) bettered the long-standing record set by O.J. Simpson in 1968.
The 6-foot-4, 216-pounder from Athens, Ohio, was an All-State QB at Athens High where he was named Ohio Mr. Football, throwing for nearly 4,500 yards and 63 TDs as a senior.
He began his college career at Ohio State where he redshirted in 2015 and saw back-up action in 2016 and 2017 before moving to LSU as a 2018 grad transfer. Burrow passed for 2,894 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior and rushed for 399 yards and seven scores, leading the Tigers to a 10-3 mark and setting the stage for a mammoth final season.
Burrow’s 2019 season was extraordinary. He passed for LSU school records of 4,715 yards and 48 TDs (also tying a Heisman record), while adding another 289 yards and three scores on the ground. His 5,004 yards of total offense was a school record while his completion percentage of 77.9 was the best in Heisman history.
Not only did he capture the Heisman, he was also the AP National Player of the Year and won the Walter Camp, Maxwell, Davey O’Brien and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Awards.
After winning the award, he led LSU to a 63-28 win over Oklahoma in the CFP semifinals and a 42-24 win over Clemson in the championship game, throwing for a combined 956 yards and 12 touchdowns on 60-of-88 passing while scoring twice on the ground.
He was drafted first overall by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2020 NFL Draft and, despite injuries, has become one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks. Burrow has thrown for 14,083 yards and 97 touchdowns in four seasons and led the Bengals to the 2022 Super Bowl and to two AFC title games.
